How will tutorials scoring work?

Or how to summarize the details

Instead of giving each review simply a number of stars, I want to share with you a bit more details about each specific tutorial.

But to avoid writing lengthy pages or making long videos, I would like for you to understand the score in a glance, but still with a bit more details than just a simple score from 1 to 5.

Se here is my explanation of the scoring that I will give to each blender tutorial that I reviewed.

In order for you to be able to search through the tutorials, to find the right match, I will categorize each with these categories:

Difficulty:

  • beginner
  • novice
  • intermediate
  • advanced
  • pro

-Type (of knowledge learned):

  • modeling
  • texturing
  • lighting
  • animating
  • rendering

-Version (of blender):

  • 2.8
  • 2.9
  • 3.0
  • 3.1

And the main part of the scoring will be split into two parts subjective, and objective (as much as that is even possible)

Fun, Captivation, Appeal (Subjective):

-exciting/fun: Was the result (model, texture, lighting, animation) something i’m excited about, something that I like?

-captivating: Did the lesson draw my attention or was I bored. Did the time run faster or slower, while I was following the tutorial?

-appealing: Did the teacher speak with nice tone, focused on my learning? Did I feel relaxed and possibly entertained?

Integration, Usability, Efficiency, Presentation (Objective):

-integration/usability: Can i use this now in blender, is it applicable, can I integrate the knowledge? Was it purely theory on theoretical examples? Did I learn how to solve a realistic problem, or achieve a certain goal? Was there enough actual practice? Did i do anything on my own or was it all just copy and paste?

-efficiency: Was the time efficiently spent? Was the lesson going too fast, or too slow? Was a single lesson too long, could I hold my attention? Did I learn just enough new techniques, or was it too much for once? Did I solve a problem or achieve the same goal with different approaches?

-presentation: was the lesson clear and understandable including the language, did I understand every detail? Were there any noises in the background, bad microphone, or unclear image? Does the tutorial follow a certain path, does it have a structure, does it make sense and builds up piece by piece?

And that’s it. Here’s also an example of how this would work:

Super amazing title of the tutorial

difficulty: beginner; type: modelling, texturing; version: 3.0

Fun, Captivation, Appeal (Subjective): 4 this score is an average of the 3 subscores

  • fun: 5
  • captivation: 3
  • Appeal: 4

Integration, Usability, Efficiency, Presentation (Objective): 3 this score is also an average of the 3 subscores (rounded to the closest whole number)

  • integration/usability: 3
  • efficiency: 3
  • presentation: 4

And regarding the numbering, I just want to clarify my scores after I did a few reviews, to make sure you understand what i meant by those numbers. Event though 1 to 5 follow linearly, in actual tutorial it’s difficult to imagine what is a 2 which is 40% of best possible score, or what does a 4 (80%) mean?
I mean does a 5 (100%) mean there can simply be nothing better out there?

So I imagine scores from 1 to 5, regardless of the section, something like this:

1 – Not worth your time, really bad, skip it if possible.
2You will get somethings from it. It’s not a good example, but it’s better than nothing, wouldn’t recommend it.
3 – Worth your time and money, good tutorial, above average of what is out there at this time.
4 – A great deal, these are rare, 80% of best possible score, you’ll enjoy it,
5 – 100%, best possible option, must have, you’ll love it, it doesn’t get better than this.
